Genetic Disorders

Undescended Testicles: When the fetus is in the womb, the testicles are connected to the abdomen. But due to some reasons, the testicles do not separate from the abdomen. This leads to a non-functional pair of testes. As the human does not have testes, it is deficient in testosterone.

Klinefelter’s Syndrome

Physical injury

Physical damage to the testicular area can hinder the testosterone production as they are responsible for its production. But, both the testicles must be injured to hinder the testosterone production.

Mumps Orchitis

This is a kind of infection that affects the testicles. This infection can also lead to inhibition or stopping the production of testicles as it attacks the main part of the testicles.

Cancer Treatment

The treatment of cancer causes exposure to heavy chemicals and radiation. This can lead to permanent disability of the testicles.

Organ Damage

Pituitary Damage: Pituitary is also known as the master gland in the endocrine system. It secretes the hormones to control every other endocrine gland in the body including the adrenal glands and the testis that is responsible for the production of testosterone. Consumption of drugs, tumors or kidney failures can cause malfunction or even dysfunction of the gland. Since there will no hormone to stimulate the glands, the testosterone levels will fall eventually.

Kallmann Syndrome

This syndrome associated with the dysfunctionality of the hypothalamus. It is causes delayed or absent puberty. This leads to a lack of production of some hormones, including testosterone.

This sexually transmitted diseases can hamper the functions of major glands like Pituitary glands, hypothalamus, and testes. All these glands are important for reaching sexual maturity. If these glands malfunction, it will hinder the testosterone production.

Way Of Living

Aging: Testosterone levels in male decrease as they grow in age. This causes weak muscles and other old-age related problems.

A high percentage of body fat can lead to an increase in the aromatase enzyme. This enzyme helps in converting of testosterone into estrogen. This can cause the testosterone levels to drop rapidly as high levels of estrogen causes inhibition in the testosterone production.

Certain drugs and medicines can induce hormonal imbalance and also disturb the pH level of the body. This creates an inhospitable environment for the production of testosterone.

When the body is under stress, it releases a hormone known as cortisol. This hormone inhibits the production of sperm and testosterone in the body. It is the reason why testosterone levels are low in those who are subjected to regular stress.
